complaining is not good for you

Research shows that we complain every sixty seconds in a conversation. Complaining feels good. That's why we do it so much. It's getting something off our shoulders.

Complaining is repeat behavior.

Complaining sets our neurons free so we may do and pay attention to other things. The flow of information moves easier. Repeated complaining rewires our brains. That way the neurons come closer together so they "fire" better. The connections between the neurons become more permanent.

When we complain that makes future complaining more likely.

By this process, complaining becomes our default behavior. People will perceive us differently. Can you see why complaining is damaging to the brain? Complaining is also stressful. It raises blood sugar and blood pressure.

There's more. There is an increase in heart disease and the possibility of stroke. Be cautious about who we "hang" with.

How to combat the health implications.

Be grateful. Daily. This reduces stress. Also, engage in solutions. Identify the purpose and go forward to reach a solution. Turn problems into solutions.

"One can no more prevent the mind from returning to an idea than the sea from returning to a shore. In the case of the sailor this is called the tide; in the case of the guilty it is called remorse. God upheaves the soul as well as the ocean."
